Summer Cello offers young cello students, ages 7 – 14 an opportunity to explore their musical skills and their instruments through different approaches. Cello students enjoy the community of an all cello camp with professional cellists as faculty and high school and college cello students as counselors. We offer a traditional masterclass setting each day for the student to play with an accompanist and work towards polishing a piece of solo repertoire. They also have an opportunity to play in a cello choir that is conducted and for the more advanced players, a chamber group experience to learn leadership and teamwork through small ensembles. Practice skills are emphasized and a short practice session each day is supervised by our experienced cello counselors. They also participate in an improvisation class, Body Mapping that emphasizes body awareness for the cellist, as well as a Kodaly class that focuses on rhythm skills. We will have special guests each day for the last session to inspire young cellists with performances and demonstrations.
